A fatality has occurred at a UK port following an "accident" on Tuesday 21 January. Forth Ports' Port of Tilbury confirmed the incident to Port Strategy in a statement, but stated it could not provide any additional information about whether the person was working at the port at the time and what type of work was being carried out.

A spokesperson from the Port of Tilbury in Essex said: "We are extremely sad to have to confirm that there was a fatal accident at the Port of Tilbury on Tuesday 21 January. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who tragically died. There are no other reported injuries.

We cannot comment any further at this point."

In a statement about the incident, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said: "HSE is aware of the incident and is assisting Essex Police who have primacy for the investigation.
Enquiries should be directed to Essex Police at this stage."

Two fatalities took place at the Tilbury Docks in October 2011.
