Ellesmere Port GP surgery closes to patients over suspected case of coronavirus

A surgery in Ellesmere Port has closed today over coronavirus fears. Great Sutton Medical Centre has closed until further notice as a precautionary measure following a suspected case of coronavirus. The surgery, on Old Chester Road in Great Sutton[1], announced the news today (February 28) on their Facebook page[2].

Their post read: "Important information: The surgery is closed until further notice as a precautionary measure following a suspected case of coronavirus."

The centre is issuing the following message to patients on their landline: "If you have any of these symptoms, a fever, a cough, a sore throat, shortness of breath and you have travelled abroad recently or have had close contact with someone diagnosed with or suspected of having the coronavirus in the 14 days before getting sick, then please do not come to the surgery. "You should self-isolate and call 111." It comes as more cases of the virus are confirmed in the UK.

Two more patients in England have tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in England to 17 and the UK to 19.

England's chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty said: "Two further patients in England have tested positive for Covid-19. "The virus was passed on in Iran and the patients have been transferred to specialist NHS infection centres at the Royal Free Hospital. "The total number of cases in England is now 17.

Following confirmed cases in Northern Ireland and Wales, the total number of UK cases is 19." Coronavirus has affected thousands across the world with Italy and Iran being the latest countries battling to contain the virus. The virus has reached more than 20 countries from China, where the disease outbreak began over a month ago.

A number of people were flown from Wuhan, China to Arrowe Park Hospital earlier this month for quarantine.
