Investigation continues into death of a man after incident at Teesside haulage firm

An investigation into an incident at a Teesside haulage firm where a man lost his life is still continuing, more than a year after the event. Cleveland Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are working together to discover exactly what happened at the Ward Bros transport and distribution depot on Dormor Way in South Bank near Middlesbrough in January 2019. A 30-year-old man suffered serious injuries after an incident at the depot on the morning on January 8, 2019.

He was taken to James Cook University Hospital,in Middlesbrough, but sadly died three days later. The exact nature of the incident and the man’s identity have not been revealed but police and the HSE launched an investigation into what happened.

The HSE has confirmed that enquiries are still continuing. “This incident is still under joint investigation which is being led by Cleveland Police,” said a spokesman.

A Ward Bros spokesman said at the time: “Regrettably, a member of staff at Ward Brothers was seriously injured in an incident at our depot on Tuesday January 8 and died on Friday January 11. “Our thoughts are with the person’s family at this difficult time and we will provide them with any support necessary. “We will co-operate with the authorities as part of any investigation about their death.

No further statement will be given at this time.”
