This is the shocking moment a military vehicle from the United States and a Russian armored truck clash in Syria[1] as American troops appears to run their rivals off road.

The footage, posted online, is thought to have been filmed in Qamishli, in the north east of the country, from inside a civilian car on Wednesday.

It looks to show two US military vehicles, including the M-ATV involved in the collision, and a convoy of three Russian trucks, including the 4x4 Tigr run off road, jostling for space and position on the highway.

The two trucks even appear to hit one another at one stage as civilians nearby desperately run out of the way to avoid being hit.

US Central Command has confirmed it is looking into the incident. Navy Capt. William Urban told Task and Purpose[2]: 'We're aware of the video and we're looking into it at this point.'

A spokesman for Operation Inherent Resolve told Military Times[3] the Russian patrol vehicle had 'violated the de-confliction protocols' and was 'escorted out of the area'.

Col. Myles B.

Caggins III said in a statement: 'On Feb.

19, 2020, a Russian patrol violated the de-confliction protocols and did not adhere to the de-confliction measures, and was escorted out of the area of U.S. operations.

'The Coalition's goal is to de-escalate any unplanned encounters with other forces operating in northeastern Syria. The videoed driving incident is under review.'

Col. Caggins III added in a statement to the DailyMail.com: 'The Coalition's goal is to de-escalate any unplanned encounters with other forces operating in northeastern Syria.

'The videoed driving incident is under review.

We typically do not publicly share details of our frequent Russian deconfliction communications.'

The 45-second clip begins with the Russian convoy behind the American trucks. As the Russians attempt to overtake the Americans, US troops look to block their move before sending them off the road.

It is not known if the Russian convoy were warned ahead of the clash.

In February the US stepped up warnings to Russia over its Syria policy, saying Moscow was trying to challenge America's presence in northeastern Syria by violating the terms of a de-confliction agreement and was also helping escalate the fighting in the northwestern province of Idlib.

James Jeffrey, US special envoy for Syria engagement and fight against Islamic State, said the United States was 'very very worried' about the Syrian government assault, backed by Russia, on Idlib, and he repeated calls on Moscow to stop it.

President Donald Trump softened his plans to pull out US troops from Syria after backlash from Congress, and has kept around 600 troops, largely in northeastern Syria to continue the fight against Islamic State.

Northeastern Syria is a complicated battleground with forces of the United States, Turkey and Russia as well the Syrian government and aligned Iranian militia operating, sometimes in close proximity.

Moscow has been filling the vacuum of U.S. withdrawal from the area, ramping up its military presence in Syria's northeast, and de-confliction agreements between the two sides ensure they avoid any clashes.

But Jeffrey said there have been more incidents of Russia's violating the terms of de-confliction in what he characterized as an attempt to challenge the U.S. presence in there.

'We've seen a limited number of occasions where ... they've tried to come deep into the area where we and the SDF are patrolling well inside the basic lines we have sketched.

Those are the ones that are worrying me,' he said, referring to Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that works with Washington in northeastern Syria.

He said while the numbers of such incidents were not very high, they were on the rise. 'Thus is troubling,' he said, and called on Moscow to adhere fully to the de-confliction agreements with the United States.
